Ripartire. Prima o poi lo si doveva fare, si doveva trovare il coraggio di ricominciare, per tornare finalmente a vivere. Dopo avere affrontato questo lungo periodo di isolamento e restrizioni era necessario trovare il modo giusto di riprendersi la vita, di ricordare alle persone quel sapore di natura e libertà, di festa e compagnia, che da anni non si percepiva più. Ci racconta Michele Guarneri, che insieme ai suoi amici, Andrea Migliano (gestore del rifugio Le Fonti minerali e guida alpina della Valle Orco), Filippo Losio e Isacco Capuzzi (membri del gruppo di arrampicata Truceclimbing) “Da diverso tempo sognavamo di riunire amici e conoscenti in un unico posto, con l’obiettivo di scalare insieme e divertirsi, circondati da uno dei migliori spettacoli al mondo: la Natura.” Trovare il coraggio per farlo non è stato facile, vista la poca esperienza e la grande di non farcela.
Restarting. Sooner or later, you have to do it. You have to find the courage to start anew, to finally get back to living. After facing this long, bleak period of isolation, restrictions and rules, it’s vital we find the right way to reclaim our lives, to remind ourselves of the taste of nature and freedom, of celebration and companionship, that we haven’t savored for years. Michele Guarneri, alongside his friends Andrea Migliano (Orco Valley alpine guide and manager of Le Fonti Minerali), Filippo Losio and Isacco Capuzzi (members of the Truceclimbing climbing group), tells us that “for a while, we’d been dreaming of getting friends and acquaintances together again all in one place, to climb together and have fun, surrounded by one of the greatest shows on earth: Nature.” Finding the courage to do it wasn’t easy, given the lack of experience and the fear of not being able.
Il Valle Orco Climbing Festival è nato un po’ per scherzo, quando a ottobre 2020 abbiamo deciso di ritrovarci, tutti gli amici, per riprendere scalare dopo mesi di chiusi in casa. La roccia perfetta della valle, le molteplici discipline praticabili (boulder, trad, falesia, multipitch…) e l’ospitalità del Rifugio Le Fonti minerali sono state fin da subito parte del processo.
The Valle Orco Climbing Festival was founded partly as a joke when, in October 2020, we decided to meet up again, with all our friends, and start climbing again after months of being stuck at home. The valley’s perfect rocks, the numerous disciplines that can be practiced (bouldering, traditional, rock, multipitch…) and the accommodation at Le Fonti Minerali lodge were all part of the process right from the start.
Da quel momento ci è sembrato chiarissimo: quello era il posto perfetto per organizzare qualcosa di grande. Ci sono voluti alcuni mesi per concretizzare l’idea. Grazie all’appoggio del Comune di Ceresole Reale, delle strutture ricettive (che hanno registrato un sold-out difficile da prevedere anche nel periodo di ferragosto) e degli sponsor, che hanno creduto fin da subito nel progetto, una semplice idea, un po’ utopica forse con una vena di nostalgia, è diventata realtà”. Così questa fantasia ha preso forma, dipingendosi dei vivaci colori portati dagli scalatori che hanno gremito la valle, alla ricerca delle linee proposte tra i settori più noti e quelli appositamente ripuliti, registrando più di 500 iscritti e circa un migliaio di passaggi nell’arco dei due giorni. L’obiettivo è stato chiaro sin dall’inizio: far scoprire al mondo degli arrampicatori un angolo di paradiso con un potenziale incredibile e uno stile di scalata unico, a molti ancora poco noto. Realizzare un evento del genere, dopo le incredibili difficoltà affrontate nell’ultimo periodo, è sicuramente un chiaro e forte segnale che, attraverso i sorrisi e le gesta dei partecipanti, vuol comunicare al mondo che è ora di ricominciare a vivere le proprie passioni.

Il prossimo Valle Orco Climbing Festival sarà tra l’ultima settimana di settembre e la prima di ottobre.
Right then it all became clear: this was the perfect place to organize something big. It took a few months to put the idea into practice. Thanks to support from the Ceresole Reale community, the accommodation facilities (fully booked, which never would have been predicted, even over a bank holiday) and the sponsors who, right from the start, believed in this project, a simple idea, maybe a bit idealistic with a streak of nostalgia, it became reality.” That’s how this daydream took shape, brought to life in full color by climbers that flocked to the valley, seeking out the routes on offer, from the better-known sections to the ones that were cleared up specially, with over 500 signed up and around a thousand ascents in just over two days. The goal was clear right from the start: allow the world of climbers to discover this slice of heaven with incredible potential and a unique climbing style, still not widely known. Organizing an event like this after the incredible challenges faced over the last while, alongside the smiles and accomplishments of those taking part, was definitely aloud and clear sign to the world that now is the time to restart, to start fully experiencing your passions again and, through them, find your own freedom.
